“Gabriele created a meaningful and inclusive space that resonated deeply with our WINGS cancer support group members. Participants described the workshop as energizing, healing, and accessible, fostering connection, reflection, and personal growth.”
Finding Your Rhythm
Drumming, Singing & Connection for Wellbeing
I believe deeply in the power of music, particularly the healing power of singing and drumming. As a performer, I have so often received feedback that my music was “uplifting” or “healing”. As an educator, I have long seen the research supporting the benefits of active music-making. Over time, facilitating drumming circles in combination with singing became a natural evolution of my work.
Across cultures, drumming and singing have been used for healing, self-expression, celebration, and social connection. Modern research supports this, showing that active music-making promotes physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.
Because we use our bodies for rhythm and our voices as accessible instruments, anyone can participate— no prior experience is required.
I incorporate vocal chants and “circle singing”—a technique created by Bobby McFerrin—alongside drumming circles to create uplifting, therapeutic experiences.

Cancer Support, Addiction Recovery, Corporate Teams, Senior Centers, Schools
I have facilitated workshops for diverse groups, including cancer support organizations, corporate teams, senior centers, and schools. I was able to help my father in his last weeks of life by singing for him. Our family reconnected deeply through singing old folk songs together for him. So often, a deeply felt personal experience moves you to change your direction in life.
I would love to partner with you or your organization. Please allow me to take you, or your organization, on a journey toward well-being, may it be for a cancer support group, a Senior Facility, an addiction recovery center, a rehab clinic, a corporation that wants to improve their team building and wellness at the workplace or at a school.
What People Say About the Workshops

“I am so grateful you have graced our lives with your presence over the last 5 years or so. That was fabulous yesterday, and almost entirely without words!”
Benefits of Drumming and Singing with Groups
Drumming and singing can complement—not replace—medical treatment by supporting quality of life during cancer treatment and recovery.
Potential benefits include:
• Reduced stress and anxiety.
• Improved mood and emotional expression.
• Temporary relief from pain and discomfort.
• Reduced loneliness and isolation.
• Increased energy and engagement.
• A positive distraction from treatment-related worries.
• Greater feelings of hope, connection, and personal agency.
Some studies of active music-making have also reported changes in immune-related markers, including immunoglobulins, cytokines, and natural killer cell activity. These findings are promising, but should be described as potential supportive effects, rather than as evidence that singing or drumming treats cancer.
Group drumming and singing turn participants from passive audience members into active collaborators. Because musical skill is not required, these activities can be highly accessible team building experiences.
They can:
• Build teamwork: Participants must listen, respond, and synchronize with one another.
• Improve active listening: Successful group music-making depends on awareness of both individual and collective contributions.
• Break down hierarchies: Employees at different organizational levels participate on equal terms.
• Reduce stress: Music-making provides an energizing break from workplace pressures.
• Increase engagement: Interactive participation creates a memorable shared experience.
• Encourage inclusion: Activities can be adapted for different ages, abilities, cultures, and levels of musical experience.
• Strengthen communication: Rhythm and harmony demonstrate how individual contributions affect the entire group.
• Build morale and connection: Shared achievement can strengthen camaraderie and group identity.
• Support community initiatives: Choirs and musical events can also be incorporated into charitable, community, and corporate social-responsibility programs.
As part of a broader therapeutic or recovery program, drumming and singing may:
• Interrupt repetitive or negative thought patterns.
• Provide healthy alternatives for emotional expression.
• Reduce stress and anxiety.
• Encourage mindfulness and present-moment awareness.
• Provide a constructive physical and emotional outlet.
• Build social connection and a sense of belonging.
• Offer rewarding experiences that do not depend on substances or addictive behaviors.
Drumming and singing combine learning, movement, creativity, and social interaction, making them especially useful activities for children.
Drumming
• Develops hand-eye and bilateral coordination.
• Strengthens gross and fine motor skills.
• Encourages concentration and sustained attention.
• Reinforces concepts such as counting, sequencing, patterns, and fractions.
• Provides a safe physical outlet for stress, frustration, and strong emotions.
• Teaches listening, turn-taking, and cooperation.
Singing
• Supports speech, language development, rhyming, and vocabulary.
• Strengthens memory through lyrics, melodies, and repetition.
• Develops listening and auditory discrimination.
• Encourages cooperation and empathy in group settings.
• Builds confidence and comfort with self-expression.

Why Combining Drumming and Singing Is Especially Powerful
Although each activity has distinctive benefits, combining them engages the body, brain, breath, voice, emotions, and social system at the same time.
This combination makes drumming and singing accessible tools for promoting physical activity, cognitive stimulation, emotional expression, mindfulness, creativity, social connection, and overall well-being.
Participants simultaneously:
• Listen
• Breath
• Move
• Remember
• Coordinate
• Vocalize
• Respond to rhythm
• Express emotion
• Connect with others
